My name is Yi and I am currently a freshman at Boston University, majoring in political science, and will add economics as a second major soon. I have tutored in the past, both in school and learning centers, working with students ranging from elementary school to high school on subjects such as mathematics, English, and economics. Those three subjects, plus history which I have a considerable knowledge with, are the subject I would like to tutor at the college level.

As for my background, I graduated in the top 10% of the graduating class in a very large suburban public school. Having taken 8 AP exams ranging from calculus, chemistry, history, and English literature, I had 5's in five of them and 4's in the rest. I have participated in the New York State Math League competition in 2008 as a part of team representing four upstate counties which won the Division B championship. At Boston University, I have taken Intro Microeconomics and Enriched Calculus. I believe those backgrounds have made me qualified to tutor in a wide variety of subjects.

Hobbies:

My hobbies include reading classics, watching and occasionally playing sports, composing poetry, and hanging out with friends.

Hourly Rate:
$20.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Any day after 4PM

Lives Near:
02215 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

Chestnut Hill Tutor Profile: Psychology major at Boston College

Tutor Profile
Senior at Boston College
Majoring in Psychology

Gender:
Female

Preferred Subjects
English (ESL), English (Writing), Spanish, and Psychology

Experience:

Like they say, the best gift you can give someone is the gift of knowledge. It's true. And as a teacher, you learn so much from your students as well. It is one of the most rewarding experiences one can have.

I am currently a senior earning my bachelor's degree at Boston College. I have taken various psychology courses, including: Behavioral Methods & Statistics, Clinical Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Sensory Psychology, etc.
I love writing and have taken various English courses as well, including: Writing Seminar, Literature & Narrative, Writing Creative Nonfiction, etc.
My other passion is for languages. I started taking Spanish classes in middle school and recently studied abroad in Granada, Spain, in Spring 2008.

While there, I privately tutored a young girl in ESL. I also volunteered at a local high school there, where I led classroom bilingual discussions about American and Spanish culture.
Returning to school at BC this past fall, I began work as a Read Boston Tutor at a local elementary school. I worked with a kindergarten classroom with their reading and writing activities. I also volunteered as an ESL tutor through BC's neighborhood center, teaching ESL to a small group of adults.

I will always remember the teachers who reached out to me and believed in me. If it weren't for them, I would not have come as far as I have and would not have the drive to go even farther. As a result, it's the least I can do to pass along this gift.

Note: I am willing to travel anywhere accessible by the MBTA.

Hobbies:

I love art (anything creative), reading, writing, learning about other cultures and languages, traveling, and most importantly, trying new things. There's so much out there to learn and so little time!

Hourly Rate:
$20.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Weekends after 12 Noon
Mon/Wed/Fri after 12 Noon
Tues/Thurs in the evening

Lives Near:
02467 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor

I'm from Washington, DC and have been teaching for about 3 years now. My goal is to make sure nobody thinks math is a four-letter-word! I'm also a pre-medicine student so I'm also a bio fanatic. Tutoring works well for me because when I study, I work on an idea until it makes sense to me - and if I can make sense of it - anybody can make sense of it.

Hobbies:

I'm actively involved in (participating and teaching) Emergency Medicine, I love hockey, and did Crew for 4+ years.

Hourly Rate:
$25.00/hr

Available Days/Times:
Any day at any time

Lives Near:
02446 zip code

Click here to contact this tutor
