Experience
I finished my doctorate this year and am currently on the academic job market. My goals are to earn some money while I'm on the job hunt and to give back and offer my services to anyone that could benefit. I have tutoring experience in AP European History and a wealth of teaching experience. My teaching evaluations were consistently stellar. I work well one-on-one as the line out my door during office hours can attest. My breadth of experience in teaching includes three years at the undergraduate level, four years at the graduate. I have worked in both traditional residency programs as well as internet-mediated programs. I am adept at leveraging new technology in and out of the classroom without letting the new tools eclipse the tried and true methods of teaching. Also, I have extensive field, interview, and archival research experience in the Middle East, UK, and Ireland. My writing experience spans decades commitment to the craft, including several published essays, a history honors thesis at HC, two graduate theses, and my dissertation. My style is very Socratic. I do not spoon-feed students or do their thinking for them. One of my greatest professional pleasures is in seeing students have those "aha" moments of discovery after answering a series of questions. Thus, I could do standardized test prep, but I'd be best for the more broad-based tutoring in the humanities, including writing, study tricks, and different styles of reading (active, critical, scanning, and skimming).
