Experience

Music Theory Tutor (California Institute of the Arts; Colby College) Music Skills Tutor (California Institute of the Arts) Music Composition Teacher (California Institute of the Arts; Private) Writing Tutor (California Institute of the Arts) -- www.lukecmartin.com -- I am a contemporary classical composer and performer, with an MFA in Music Composition from California Institute of the Arts. I had works performed (and have performed myself) across the U.S. and internationally; I currently live in Allston, MA and give private music composition and/or theory lessons. While I specialize in contemporary and experimental music, in the tradition of John Cage, I am well-versed in a wide range of styles and approaches. I am seeking students of any age and ability level. Happy to host you at my home, or travel to you! In addition to composing, I see performing as a very connected practice. If it was right for the student, I could easily see improvising together as part of a composition lesson. I am a writing tutor as well, with a degree in English from Colby College and several years of experience as a writing tutor. I can focus on anything from essay writing, to applications and grant writing. I am open to doing one hour per week lessons, one hour per two week lessons, or any other arrangement. My email availability to students is unlimited, in addition to the lessons.

Hobbies

I am a composer, writer, and artist. I perform regularly throughout Boston and across the States. Additionally, I played tennis throughout college, at a national level, and have taught tennis at private clubs for many (8) years. In that time, ran the tennis program at a club on Cape Cod, teaching people ranging from age 3 to 70. In short, I love teaching. I find lessons to be most effective in one-to-one or small group situations.
