Education

I'm an MFA candidate in nonfiction writing at Emerson College. I graduated from Eugene Lang College (The New School, NYC) in 2012. My undergraduate degree is in writing, literature, and gender studies.

Experience

I graduated from The New School with a 3.77 GPA. I was an Honors Graduate, the university's highest institutional graduation honors. During college, I worked as the assistant to a writer/theorist. Throughout college, I got straight As in writing and literature classes. Before college, I went to a competitive Philadelphia prep school, where I was consistently one of the top students in my English, creative writing, and history classes. As a graduate student in writing, I have a lot of experience critiquing and editing the work of other students in a workshop setting. I am a careful reader, and I am compulsive about finding precisely the right words to convey a point. At Emerson, I've taken courses in literature, writing, and translation. Most importantly, I took "Teaching College Composition," a course meant to prepare graduate students to teach college-level writing and composition classes. In addition to helping with school coursework and writing, my six years of studies in nonfiction writing have prepared me to help students to write and edit college and pre-college program admissions essays (Common App-style personal essays, personal statements, statements of interest, etc.).

Hobbies

I was a gender studies student in college, and one of my focuses was popular culture as it relates to issues of gender. I enjoy watching TV shows and movies with a critical eye. I am a nonfiction writer. I write personal essay and memoir concerned with issues of identity. When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending my spare time reading, walking, and listening to public radio (Wait Wait, This American Life, Fresh Air, and the Moth Radio Hour are among my favorites).
