Education

B.S. (summa cum laude), Cornell University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, 2005 M.S., Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, 2008, 2011 Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, 2011-2015.

Experience

I’m a Ph.D. scientist and an experienced tutor/teacher looking to provide individual tutoring at the high school/college level. Math, science, engineering, and writing are my core areas of expertise, but I am also willing to serve as an “all-purpose” academic tutor for a broad range of subjects depending on the specific needs of my clients. I am also willing to serve as a mentor for highly motivated students interested in pursuing a career in research. As a tutor, I steadfastly refuse to simply furnish answers to homework problems; I prefer to guide the client towards solutions through development of a thorough understanding of the underlying concepts. I graduated with a B.S. in materials science (summa cum laude) in 2005 from Cornell University, where I was a Goldwater Scholar. I subsequently obtained M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, also in materials science, from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 and 2011, respectively. I then served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University for four years. I received two fellowships from the National Science Foundation to complete my Ph.D. at Berkeley, where I was mentored by a winner of the National Medal of Science. As an undergraduate at Cornell University, I taught CS100M, which focused primarily on MATLAB programming, for two years and provided individual tutoring to students in a broad range of math, science, and engineering courses during this period. At Berkeley, I taught introductory chemistry to freshman students and served as a research mentor to several undergraduate students. To complement my teaching experience, I have been active in scientific research at elite universities for over 15 years. I am also well-versed in both oral and written communication. I have authored numerous journal articles throughout my career and have given many public presentations at major professional conferences. If you would be interested in tutoring, please leave your name, contact information, and a brief description of your specific tutoring needs in order to arrange a free initial consultation over the phone. I look forward to hearing from you!
