Experience
I am unique in the world of tutors because I have been tutoring since I was a child. I am the eldest of four siblings, and it would often fall to me to ensure my younger brothers and sisters were prepared for school. I continued on this path in high school, where I volunteered as a peer tutor, teaching fellow students the more advanced and tricky concepts of physics, calculus, and chemistry. Volunteering has always been a huge part of my teaching experience, and I spent an entire summer as a bilingual literacy tutor for young children through a nonprofit organization. Today, I am enrolled at MIT in an undergraduate studies program, pursuing a double major in Physics and Political Science. My specialties are definitely math and science, although at MIT I am undertaking research in biophysics and statistical mechanics, examining the possible origins of life on Earth by modelling colloidal systems to provide insight into the molecular processes of cells. I try to employ Socratic questioning instead of simply giving my students the answer and expecting them to memorize it. By asking questions, allowing a student to learn at his or her own pace, and adapting my teaching style to better suit the student, I am able to increase their overall understanding of a given subject.
