Experience

Prior to beginning my career in education, I have spent several years volunteering and assisting in an elementary school in my hometown. This past year, I completed my student teaching practicum in both general and special education. During this time, I developed my skills in differentiation and applied these to whole group, small group, and one-on-one instruction. I have created and taught lesson plans that engage students while addressing the wide range of needs and abilities in the classroom. While student teaching, I also worked as a substitute and a tutor. I worked one-on-one with a third grade student twice per week in order to increase their abilities and confidence in mathematics and English language arts, specifically to increase fluency and vocabulary. From this experience, I learned that it is important to create engaging and active lessons that increase the student's motivation and desire to learn. As tutoring occurs in addition to normal schooling, instruction should complement what the student is learning in order for the student to be able to form connections between the materials.

Outside of teaching, I am an avid baker and cook. The kitchen can be both a challenging and rewarding environment but I love every second of it! I am also a fan of being outside as much as possible. Whether I am partaking in a leisurely walk or an intense hike, being outdoors allows time for relaxation and reflection.
