I currently major in English and focus on creative writing. I like to tutor students and hope to teach one day. I find many students I tutor already have a gift for writing and just need some guidance, encouragement, and a little editing. Many students are not good writers and composition is hard for them. With these type of students I like to try the technique of asking the questions which give them ideas for their compositions. This works well for students struggling with ACT and SAT essay sections and in other college writing courses. I can tutor math and science for pre-college level students. Math and science subjects are easier to tutor since the answers are definite facts and quicker to comprehend than the art of good writing skills. I can employ sets of diagrams or fact sheets to arrange questions for practice tests in math and science. Writing analysis can be much more subjective once the teacher corrects mere grammatical errors. I can also tutor for ACT, SAT, and PSAT reading and composition. My interests aside from school involve outdoor running and singing in a choir. I always try to show students the processes and procedures in learning rather than just the knowledge itself. This prepares them for learning on their own later in life.
