Bank Street College of Education/ New York, NY-- Provided writing support services to graduate students on essay content, organization and grammar Adjunct Professor/ Touro College/ New York, NY -- Taught a remedial writing course, Introduction to College Writing. Provided systematic, instruction in reading comprehension, grammar and usage that enabled students to read and analyze short stories and to write effective essays. I want to be a tutor because I think it is extremely important for people to be able to converse in the language of the country in which they live. Unfortunately, today, English is not being taught properly and I find this distressing. Today, you can read magazines and newspapers and see so many errors. It's amazing how many people do not know the difference between "it's" and "its." And this is just the tip of the iceberg. People need to know how to write, so that they can express themselves without creating confusion. For example, I recall reading that employees with poor English writing skills are costing the companies for which they work billions of dollars yearly. Also, once you have mastered the basics of English, then you can have some fun and write a book, etc. Additionally, I just read an article which said that SAT scores in English are declining. This is a sad indication that people need help with the language. I don't have my SAT scores. I graduated high school in 1974. One of my teaching highlights occurred when several students at Touro College approached me and expressed their heartfelt thanks for the job that I was doing -- I was quite demanding. Further, these same students literally pleaded with me not to leave the college, because, they said, students needed dedicated and demanding teachers like me. Similarly, in another teaching environment, on the first day of class I thought I would bomb -- my students were quite disrespectful. However, on the last day of class, these same students gave me a party and a gift!

I am writing a book: Because We Need to Laugh and Sometimes Thinking Is Okay, Too! The idea came to me as a teenager reading Erma Bombeck's humor columns in the Boston Globe. I love to read. Right now, I am studying quantum physics and how this impacts our lives. I don't quite understand everything, but I am learning a great deal.
