Education

I attended Princeton University where I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in American History and African American Studies

Experience

My experience in teaching and tutoring is extensive, covering a variety of ages and ability levels. I have tutored the academically strong, like the students at Fenwick College Preparatory High School in Chicago. Conversely, I have also tutored those living in foster homes and learning in Trenton’s struggling schools. In addition to tutoring, I have also taught High School English in a failing, urban high school, where I worked to enhance the reading and writing skills of struggling readers. In spite of academic, financial, and social challenges, many students nonetheless made tremendous gains in standardized testing. Those who took part in my after-school ACT program or participated in weekly tutoring sessions improved their test score by as much as 10 points and several went on to receive college scholarships. Though I have left that school, several of my students have elected to continue tutoring at a distance, citing the rarity of my skills and concern for their futures as rationale. Now, as I continue to tutor my former students, I have also expanded my clientele. My current students range from those striving for a perfect score to those struggling for the bare minimum. This has proved a boon to my tutoring ability, for I have cultivated a variety of techniques to engage, teach, and organize all types of learners.

Hobbies

As someone who has benefitted from a strong academic background, I firmly believe in the power of education. As such, I've dedicated my life to this field as both a life-long learner and adamant supporter of education reform. If I am not reading or working toward social justice, then you will find me with my running shoes on or a cooking apron tied round my waist. Regardless of my dress, I will be surrounded by laughter and the comfort of family and friends.
