Experience

I'm licensed to teach in Massachusetts in multiple areas, including Spanish, ESL, mathematics, Elementary and moderate disabilities. ABOUT ME: I have over ten years of experience teaching in the Massachusetts Public Schools, doing private tutoring and teaching in less traditional settings. WHY I LOVE TO TUTOR: I enjoy the personal connection that is formed between tutor and student. I've always loved to teach but regretted that, in the public school setting with 30 students in the classroom, some students were not getting the attention they deserved. I am creative, intelligent, patient, and reliable. You can count on me to adapt my teaching style to help you learn best! SPANISH FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: If you are a high school student who is struggling to pass your Spanish class, I can help! I've taught High School Spanish using the following textbook series: Realidades, En Espanol, Avancemos, Dime, Paso a Paso. I'm familiar with the basic requirements of most Spanish classes and I can help you work through those confusing grammar topics to pass the tests. SPANISH FOR PROFESSIONALS: Although grammar and vocabulary is important, it's even more important to be able to hold a conversation! By focusing the lessons on your interests, you'll find that learning a language can be both easy and entertaining! Contact me to build your language skills while discussing art, music, travel, history, movies, television, books or your career. You can work with me 1:1 or we can have group sessions with a friend, colleague or significant other. SPANISH FOR YOUNG CHILDREN: Research has shown that learning a second language at a young age help children develops thinking skills and improve their ability to learn! Your child can learn to speak Spanish while doing what they love best: singing songs, doing crafts, reading stories, and playing games. I have a degree in Elementary Education with years of experience teaching, babysitting and working at summer camps. LESSONS FOR CHILDREN OF NON-ENGLISH SPEAKERS: I've taken numerous classes on teaching English Language Learns and became certified to teach ESL. I also traveled to China to teach English where I was honored as the Guan Ya Language Institute's Best New Foreign English Teacher in 2008. Learning a new language is hard for both children and adults. While children may appear to learn English in a less than a year, chances are they are still struggling in school with the academic tasks. I can help your child learn to understand what is going on in the classroom and how to earn good grades! STUDY SKILLS FOR STRUGGLING STUDENTS: There are many reasons why students have difficulty in school, but often, a little individual attention can go a long way! Contact me to help your student with: * Time management * Basic writing skills * Reading comprehension * Organizational skills * Note-taking * Writing essays * Writing research papers * Writing college applications * Basic mathematics (including number skills, arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1) Does your child have an Individualized Education Plan? I can help! I worked as a Special Education Resource Room Teacher in a Massachusetts public school district. I assessed students, attended Special Education team meetings, and wrote IEPs. I can also help you read and understand your child's goals and accommodations to make sure the school is providing everything your child is entitled.
