Experience

The teen and pre-teen years can be tricky ones for kids and their families. I've been a seventh grade English Language Arts teacher in suburban New York for the past nine years, and and it's been one of my greatest joys to help students and parents work together to be successful through this potentially challenging time. By learning to communicate more effectively, setting goals, and implementing specific reading, writing, studying and time-management strategies, students CAN and DO learn to become self-directed, empowered, and invested in their own success. This is a beautiful thing! My Masters studies in literacy for students in grades 5-12 has enabled me to more fully address the specific needs of the struggling adolescent reader and writer. Through pre-assessment, goal-setting, literacy strategy instruction, ongoing assessment and reflection, my students are able to make significant academic and personalized, based on what they need as individuals. I have taught nine years of collaborative special education, Gifted & Talented, and sheltered instruction for the English Language Learner. I have led after school classes on test-taking strategies, and I've tutored students privately throughout my nine years. I find great joy in connecting with middle and high school-aged kids and their families in order to help them achieve and feel good about their success. I look forward to talking with you and your child to discuss your needs and goals and what we can do to get there. - Stephanie

Hobbies

I love spending time with good people - singing karaoke, playing darts, going to cook-outs, and traveling. I've even been to Antarctica! I also like to have quiet time for reading, writing, hiking, birding, and practicing tai chi. I help run a trivia game once a week, and manage three fantasy baseball teams. I like watching competitive cooking shows, and I make a legendary banana bread.
