Education

I received a B.A. in applied math from Rice University in 2015. My GPA was 3.8.

Experience

I taught high school math in Houston as part of the Teach For America program for two years after graduating college. I taught Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus AB. The scores of my Pre-Calculus students were consistently among the highest in the district. Before teaching, I had tutored for three years in college (all except my freshman year) as a volunteer tutor for underclassmen math courses and as a job tutoring high-school students. Unfortunately these tutoring gigs were not through any formal tutoring organizations (like University Tutor) so I don't have any reviews yet. I am currently working as a data analyst at a hospital in Boston. I have always loved math, and I especially enjoy helping people understand math. I enjoy tutoring because of the specialized instruction I can give students and because of the relationship I can build with students. I aim to help students deeply understand why the material they are learning makes sense. When tutoring, I try to have the student talking and explaining things more than I am in order to make sure they truly understand. I have scored a 5 on the AP Calc BC test and a 36 on the ACT math section (the highest score). While I have not taken the SAT or GRE, I have taken practice tests and I am confident in my ability to tutor the math sections of each of these tests. Math courses I have taken: AP Calculus BC, multivariable calculus/calc III, differential equations, linear algebra, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, real analysis (don't ask me to tutor you in this, though!), number theory, probability and statistics, statistical inference.

Hobbies

In my free time, I complete math courses online (yes, I'm serious), play sports, and I also love to cook. I have always enjoyed working with children and teens, which is another reason I like tutoring. I was a camp counselor for many years. In college, I led a weekly volunteer group to mentor and tutor refugee students in Houston. All in all, I enjoy tutoring and hopefully I get to help you or your child out!
