Experience
I worked for 10 years as an archaeologist in both fieldwork and laboratory methods, and I also taught ceramic analysis for a year at MIT, before taking time off to raise my child. Archaeology studies how humans have changed over time, and pulls from various fields in researching those changes, including history, geology, geography, science, and chemistry. It's much more than simply the study of past history!I developed a love of foreign languages as a child, and lived in Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom as a dual citizen for 15 years. I attended both the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and the University of Massachusetts in Boston. I've found that studying languages is more than memorizing and reciting tables. For instance, in order for students to learn German grammar and vocabulary, they should be able to recognize how German and English are similar, and how they are different. They should be able to become confident in speaking the language and learn proper pronunciation. My job is to discover each student's learning style and help them to appreciate learning. I'm a qualified tutor for German 1-4, history (American, European, and world), science, and social sciences, along with IB and AP courses in history and social/cultural anthropology. Away from the academic world, I have interests in comics, Japanese sword arts, film noir, hiking, and camping.
