Experience

I tutor high school students in math, English, and Spanish. In addition to these, I can help students in various subjects such as ESL, up math to the Algebra I level, Spanish, ESL, PSAT and SAT preparation, reading and writing, and college essays. I approach tutoring by introducing problem solving, so students can learn on their own. My guidance is available as needed. By having them "teach back" what they learn, once we cover the material, I give students an opportunity to master the concepts. I've found this is the ultimate test of whether a student understands the work, but it still gives me a rush of adrenaline when they hit that "lightbulb-above-the-head" moment. As an English major at Amherst College, my main focus was in Community Based Learning. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and have been teaching junior high and high school ever since. Last year I taught 6th grade math and 5th grade English/ reading/ phonics in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Now I teach Spanish in high school. My life, however, does not only revolve around academics. I still enjoy learning Spanish and am a reader and photographer. Also, I knit, sing, and travel whenever I get the chance.
