Jyotishka B.
Private tutor in Boston, MA
Education
Sophomore Computer Science and Engineering Student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Experience
I am currently studying computer science at MIT, but my academic experience extends to subjects offered in liberal arts as well as technically focused high schools. To complement the technical knowledge that I have accumulated and continue to gain, I have a strong background in academic communication -- both written and oral -- having presented and published scientific research throughout my four years in high school. I have experience mentoring and tutoring students in my community in academics as well as for college applications, and more recently, my peers in college who have struggled in certain subject areas. I also have experience tutoring professionally in math and computer science. While I am confident in my own academic skills, my strongest asset lies in my intuition for problem-solving -- that is, my ability to frame a problem in such a way that it becomes easy to solve, and my ability to communicate my thought process in such a way that anyone else is able to understand it as well. This translates to the way I have always approached teaching situations, which is to guide students to the answer, but allow them to arrive at it themselves. In this way, they are able to fully grasp the concepts behind the problem and gain a deeper understanding of the subject.

Hobbies
I do a lot outside of studying, such as being involved in my fraternity and directing my a cappella group. But even those kinds of activities have to be balanced with things like relaxing, listening to music, watching TV, and hanging out with friends. I also spend a lot of time pursuing random projects in web design and app development, but I mostly like to spend my free time daydreaming or doing nothing particularly important.
