Experience

I'm a charismatic tutor with nearly 10 years of tutoring experience. My specialization is preparation for the undergraduate admissions tests (the SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject Tests). I have an intimate knowledge of the tests' substantive content and the strategies and skills necessary to obtain a top score. My expertise is reflected in my established record of success in helping students to achieve significant point gains: my students improve as much as 500 points on their overall SAT score and 6 points on their ACT composite score. I personally scored 2310/2400 on the SAT as a high school student (800 Writing, 760 Verbal, 750 Math) and have obtained multiple perfect SAT and ACT scores since. While the SAT/ACT is my primary area of expertise, I also have significant experience with academic tutoring in algebra, geometry, biology, writing, English grammar & literature, and study skills. Additionally, I'm very knowledgeable about the college admissions process and have helped many of my students with their applications and college essays. Understanding that no two students are the same, I develop a personalized curriculum based on a student's individual strengths and weaknesses, providing a focused, streamlined approach to study. I've worked with students of all levels as well as students with learning disabilities, including ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. I truly love tutoring and am consistently praised for my creativity, energy, sense of humor, and ability to motivate and inspire students. I become very personally invested in the academic success of my students, and like to consider myself not just a tutor, but a mentor. I stay in touch with many of my students well beyond completion of tutoring, and love to hear about their successes in high school and college.

Hobbies

I love traveling. In college, I studied for a year in Paris, France, and spent a semester in Ecuador, where I climbed volcanoes, did field research in the Amazon, played with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands, and swam with sharks at the coast. I'm also an avid salsa dancer, an accomplished pianist, a grammar nerd, and, shamefully, a reality TV junkie.
