Education

Graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Economics.

Experience

I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington in Biochemistry and Economics. I am also a first year medical student at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. I have over two years of tutoring experience, including high school, college and standardized tests. I have extensive experience with premedical classes and have taken and tutored the MCAT exam. I placed in the 97th percentile of the MCAT exam and I understand what the test takers want students to know and how to bridge the gap between knowing the material and doing well on the test. I am always excited when a student finally has that "ah-ha" moment and declares that they now can see how all of these seemingly separate scientific topics are actually all related. The MCAT no longer seems scary, but turns into a means of truly learning this material and providing a strong foundation for the future. I also have extensive experience in the concepts and mathematics behind many economic topics. I have also tutored in all of the premedical science subjects and have provided group review sessions as well as individualized help. I love helping students finally make connections with the material and become excited about learning again. Regardless of your starting level, I will work hard to help you achieve your goals. Even if there is something I don't know the answer to, I will do what is necessary to find that answer for you and help make it clear. I focus on not only teaching the material, but also helping students think critically. Focusing on learning techniques and expanding one's toolbox is the most important way to tackle unforeseen problems in the future. The biggest challenge I find students have is bridging the gap between what they already know and what is expected on an exam. Sometimes students get discouraged after studying for a long time with little results on their grades. This is understandably frustrating and is often times not a measure of deficiency in knowledge but an incorrect application of test preparation. Therefore, I focus not only on reviewing concepts and problems, but also on strategies for test taking success. This includes developing critical thinking skills and ways to synthesis material from multiple sources to help you truly understand the topic from multiple angles. This will help boost the your confidence and help you retain more information by making it relevant to your academic achievement. Not only that, but this technique will help you truly learn the material and will hopefully be a transformative process, rather than an obstacle.
