Education

I recently submitted my PhD in Art History at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I hold graduate degrees in Pacific Islands Studies and Museum Studies from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and graduated Magna Cum Laude. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Massachusetts in Art History, where I graduate Cum Laude. I attended Boston Latin School for high school.

Experience

I have been teaching and tutoring for many years. My tutoring experience extends from ESL classes in Barcelona, Spain to college application advising in Boston. In 2002, I was a volunteer English teacher in the Marshall Islands and more recently I taught Art History courses at the University of Auckland and provided private instruction on writing composition and analytical essay writing at the university level. I have also worked in Education Departments in several museums to produce compelling interactive education programs for a range of young visitors. These experiences inform my tutoring style that is both fun and effective. I believe that tutoring works best when it's done in a fun and positive way. I tailor the learning process toward individuals, since each student learns a bit differently. I begin by understanding what your child knows and how they think and approach the learning process. From there, I develop specific strategies and practice scenarios to strengthen their abilities. I have a wide-variety of materials to pull from. For me, it's very important to approach tutoring with a supportive and fun attitude, to make it easier to engage with my students. Since kids are so busy with school, homework, and extra-circulars, I believe extra studying for things should be as fun and engaging as possible!
